Avoid Future Headaches – Analyze your Women’s Health Insurance Options

Women are natural born caretakers. In fact, they spend so much time taking care of others that they don’t pay attention to themselves. One of the areas they let slip is health care. Women need to have quality health insurance. It may be because of marketing or because of increased awareness, or it may be because more women are in the work force, but the need for quality women’s health insurance has become a major concern for women of today

Women are even more concerned now about their health care because of all the large insurance company downsizing. In fact, many women worry about not having enough health insurance. Studies corroborate this fear. Statistics show that 1 out of every five women is underinsured, or not insured at all.

There are many different women’s health insurance plans, but the information is extensive, and can leave most people feeling baffled. Some women don’t even realize they are underinsured until it is too late.

So that you can better understand the way women are insured in the United States lets study the statistics of women’s health insurance.
1. Medicaid – designed for women that are of low income, who are pregnant, are older, or have special conditions. This type of insurance accounts for 10% of women nationwide.
2. Health insurance coverage through the company a woman works for –Over 66% of women that are employed have some type of health insurance coverage which is offered by an employer.
3. This means there are 20% of women that either have not health insurance plan, or who have to pay for coverage themselves.

Something needs to be done in this country to offer women, and children affordable health insurance. Women have different health concerns, and different risks than men. It is extremely important that they have some type of health insurance coverage.

When health insurance is offered through an employer or through a spouses employer then it’s important to analyze the health insurance company carefully. Make sure that there is coverage for special women’s illnesses. Women are also known to live longer than men and this means that special coverage needs to be available for home health care issues, or elderly care.

Different Types of Health Insurance Plans for Women
There are two types of women’s health insurance that might be offered by the company you work for. You will either have indemnity insurance or managed care insurance. Both can have the same pay options, which means, they can either be paid yearly, quarterly, or monthly and they can be paid by the company you work for in its totality, or can come in the form of a co-pay plan. This is a plan in which the employer covers a certain amount of the health insurance policy and you pay for the other part.

Indemnity Plan
This is by far the better type of women’s health insurance because you get a wider variety of doctors, and many different specialists you can choose from.

Managed care plans
members of this plan pay a low co-pay amount. These plans also offer great doctors. The major disadvantage is that, sometimes the co-pay deductible is higher for services like dental or psychological help. Managed care plans are usually sub-divided into two types of women’s health care insurance, that of the HMO and the PPO.

The HMO
These work under an organization of doctors, which means you have to choose a doctor that is a member of the organization. The only problem with the HMO is that a patient must get permission from the primary care doctor she has chosen, to see a specialist.

The PPO
This provides women’s health insurance in the same way an HMO does, but they offered health care at a discounted price. They charge less because they have more patients.

To get the right kind of women’s health insurance, you should carefully talk to your insurance provider. You will be given a couple of options, and the insurance agent can explain many of the differences in the plans.
